OBITUARY: Mary (Kures) Barbas, 95

WILMINGTON, MA — Mary Barbas (Kures), age 95, a long-time resident of Wilmington, formerly of Lowell, passed away January 10, 2020, at the Winchester Hospital.

Mary was born on November 14, 1924; she was the cherished daughter of the late Christos and Aglaia Kures. Mary was raised in Lowell and attended Lowell public schools.

Mary married her “sweetheart” George Barbas; the couple moved to Wilmington where they raised two wonderful daughters, Sylvia and Christine. Mary was very devoted to her family and was especially close to her daughters; they did everything together and really enjoyed family vacations. Mary and George, along with their girls had many wonderful times together before George’s untimely passing in 1977.

Mary looked forward to going to the Wilmington Senior Center where she could socialize and participate in several activities; her favorite was the chair exercises. Mary also enjoyed the Senior Luncheons at A.I.M.

Mary will be fondly remembered as a nice lady who was very kind and pleasant. She loved her family with all her heart and she will be greatly missed.

Mary was the beloved wife of the late George Barbas, devoted mother of Sylvia and Christine Barbas both of Wilmington, cherished daughter of the late Christos and Aglaia (Kalasta) Kures, dear sister of the late Niko Kures.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Wednesday, January 15th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Service in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 70 Montvale Ave., Woburn, MA 01801 on Thursday, January 16th at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

Donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church Mortgage Reduction Fund and mailed to the above address.
