LETTER TO THE EDITOR: WOW Thanks Community & Volunteers For Another Successful Festival Of Trees

Dear Editor,

We’re One Wilmington’s Festival of Trees, which took place this past weekend, requires countless hours of planning and execution. The enthusiasm, talent and dedication of our set-up and clean-up crews, bakers, donors, entertainers, WOW members, volunteers, non-profit vendors, and of course our patrons made the Festival of Trees a huge success. An extra special thank you to Wilmington House of Pizza and 99 Restaurant for keeping our bake sale stocked with pizza, water and popcorn; WCTV and Wilmington Apple for all of the coverage; and St. Thomas of Villanova Church for allowing us to use the hall and for embracing the commotion it causes.

The Festival is brought to life by the big hearts, creativity and thoughtfulness of our donors. We particularly enjoy the stories behind the donations… the group of Windsor Place residents getting together to hand-make ornaments together, the tree inspired by a travelling author to our Wilmington elementary schools writing about her handicap dog Ivy, and the beautiful Butterfly Tree honoring the life of a mother lost this year (who also happened to be an avid fan of the Festival). The compilation of these and so many other stories is what you see when you walk into the hall and they are what makes this event magical.

The Festival is WOW’s largest fundraiser and is what enables us to do countless
acts of kindness in Wilmington each year. Every person who attended and bought a raffle ticket or bake sale item should know that they have helped to put a gift under someone’s tree, paid a struggling family’s heat or electric bill, put clothes on a child who can’t afford them, assisted in a college tuition scholarship, put a care package in the hands of someone who needs a reason to smile… and so much more! This town is special and no thank you will ever be big enough to convey our gratitude.

With best wishes for a wonderful holiday season,

We’re One Wilmington Board of Directors
and the Festival of Trees Committee
