21-Year-Old Woburn Man Seriously Injured In Wilmington Rollover Crash

Below is a press release from the Massachusetts State Police:

WILMINGTON, MA — Early this morning, at approximately 1:42 a.m., troopers from the State Police – Andover Barracks responded to reports of a multi-vehicle, serious crash on I-93 Northbound, prior to Exit 38 in Wilmington.

Upon arrival, troopers discovered that a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe, driven by a 21-year-old man from Woburn, had struck a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu driven by a 46-year-old man from Westford, which then caused the Hyundai to leave the roadway, off to the right side.

The Hyundai then came back onto the roadway, and rolled over, as the Malibu struck the guardrail off to the left side of the roadway.

At this point, a tractor-trailer, driven by a 57-year-old man from Manchester, N.H., was also traveling northbound and struck the Hyundai. The drivers of the Malibu and tractor-trailer were not injured. The driver of the Hyundai sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington.

A fourth vehicle, a 2016 Nissan Sentra driven by a 25-year-old woman from Tewksbury, then struck the debris from the crash, causing the vehicle to be disabled. The Tewksbury woman was not injured.

Traffic was detoured off I-93 Northbound, at Exit 37C until approximately 6:46 a.m.

The remaining facts and circumstances remain under investigation by troopers assigned to the State Police – Andover Barracks. Troop A Headquarters, State Police Crime Scene Services Section (CSSS), State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section (CARS), Massachusetts State Police Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Section (CMVES), Wilmington Police and Fire Departments, and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MA DOT) all assisted on scene.
