WILMINGTON, MA — Maureen Patricia (Cowie) Cook “Mo”, age 69, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2019 in Dover, NH. Maureen was born in Winchester, MA on November 8, 1949 to the late Robert and Bernice Cowie.
Maureen is survived by her two devoted sons Michael (wife Amy) and Adam (wife Anna). She has four adorable grandsons – Caleb, Zachary, Nolan and Miles. She is also survived by her brother Bob (wife Cindy), brother Larry (wife Marie) and sister Joyce Vig (husband Ravi). She has five nieces and a nephew (and some grand nieces and nephews) that all very warmly remember her as a gentle, generous aunt – especially when recalling being the recipients of the product of one of Maureen’s favorite pastime passions – knitting mittens! She was very fond of and good at baking sweet treats. Mo never showed up to a family gathering empty handed and her gift was always home made by her with love.
In her life Maureen explored many different professions but her most rewarding career was that of a phlebotomist. She studied to become one at the NH Vocational Technical Institute in Claremont, NH. It has been said that her blood draws did not hurt at all.
Maureen lived in several different places throughout her life including Wilmington, MA where she was a member of the Wilmington High School Class of 1967, Fort Worth, TX, Andrews Air Base in Prince George’s County, MD, Newport, NH, and Rochester, NH. The past few months she lived at The Dover Center for Health in Dover, NH. Our family is extremely grateful for the loving and comprehensive care she received while at the Center. Mo left a positive impact on all those she made acquaintance with due to her dry wit and quick humor.
Maureen was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. She could always be counted on to know when the next game would be, who was on the injured list and how the teams’ seasons were going. She also loved shopping (in person or mail order – didn’t matter!), music – she still owned dozens of lp record albums from the 60s and 70s, and going out for lunch.
Family and friends attended a funeral mass on Saturday, November 9th, at 10 am at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, MA. Burial immediately followed in Wildwood Cemetery in Wilmington, MA where Mo was laid to rest with her parents and paternal grandparents. It has been requested that In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Maureen’s memory to the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI), 85 North State St., Concord, NH 03301 or at http://www.naminh.org.
Our family wishes to warmly and sincerely thank the medical staff at the Dover Wentworth Hospital for the exemplary care and compassion shown to both Maureen and us during her last few days. The patience, professionalism and kindness extended to us have become part of our treasured memories. Arrangements by the Dello Russo Family Funeral service of Wilmington.
