WILMINGTON, MA — John A. Hersom, Jr., age 50, of Billerica, formerly of Wilmington, passed away unexpectedly on October 26. 2019, at the Lowell General Hospital Saints Campus.
John was born on August 29, 1969, in Medford, MA; he was the cherished son of John A. Hersom, Sr. and Maureen Duggan. John was raised and educated in Wilmington and a graduate of Shawsheen Valley Tech. High School with the Class of 1987. Following High School, John went to work in the construction industry for many years. John had a great work ethic and would do whatever was asked of him.
John will be fondly remembered as a devoted son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin and friend. He loved unconditionally and was loved by his family and friends. John was always helpful to others; he was generous of his time and talents doing whatever needed to be done. He would help anyone in need whether he was building, putting things together, landscape work, whatever he saw that needed attention when he’d come for a visit.
Family was very important to John he had a huge extended family on both sides; namely the Duggans and Hersoms. John especially enjoyed his family gatherings, fishing, hunting with his father and grandfather, riding his motorcycle, getting his hands dirty while working on old muscle cars and hanging out with his best pal and dog, Macho.
John was a gentle soul with a heart of gold; he will be dearly missed by everyone.
John was the wonderful brother of Laurie Hersom and Kathleen Hersom both of Billerica and Christine Murray & her husband Brian of Derry, NH, loving uncle of Gillian, Katelyn, Shawn, Austin and Olivia. Cherished grandson of the late Charlie and Violet Duggan and Roy and Pearl Hersom. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Family and friends gathered at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Friday, November 1st for Visitation from 10:00 a.m. – noon followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00 noon. Interment took place in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to MSPCA at Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844.
