One Firefighter Injured As Fire At Wilmington Recycling Center Put Out

WILMINGTON, MA — A fire broke out at OPR Systems, a 76,000-square foot recycling facility, at 235 Andover Street, around 12:50am on Monday morning.

The Wilmington Fire Department, with assistance from Andover, Billerica, Burlington, North Reading, and Tewksbury, responded and knocked down the two-alarm fire by 3:30am.

One firefighter was treated at a local hospital for a minor injury. No other injuries were reported.

The building suffered extensive damage, but it still structurally sound.

According to officials, the fire emanated from a 100 foot-by-50-foot pile of cardboard and bailed paper. No other information has been released about the fire’s cause at this time.

Heavy machinery was called in to overhaul the pile. The scene was cleared at 6:35am.
