OBITUARY: Marguerite “Terri” Davey, 88

WILMINGTON, MA — Marguerite T. Davey (Fortin), “Terri”, age 88, a long-time Wilmington resident, formerly of Lawrence and Andover, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on September 29, 2019, at the Lahey Hospital in Burlington.

Terri was born on November 12, 1930 and was raised in Lawrence, MA. She was a graduate of Lawrence High School with the Class of 1948. Terri went on to continue her education at a secretarial school and went on to work at Merrimack Mutual Insurance Co. in Andover.

Terri loved the ocean and going to Hampton Beach with her friends, where she met her future husband Jim Davey. Terri and Jim married in September of 1954 and moved to Wilmington in 1959 where they raised their six children. Terri was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who cherished the times they spent together.

Growing up the family looked forward to heading up to Lake Winnipesaukee to spend time with her cousin Marguerite’s family in Moultonboro, NH. She also enjoyed her trips to Hull to visit her brother and sister-in-law at Nantasket Beach. The kids have lots of fond memories of these visits.

Once the kids were in school, Terri went back to work at Portex and Raffi and Swanson in Wilmington. She also worked in the billing department at Lahey Clinic for many years until she retired. She had a great work ethic and made several close friends there over the years.

In her spare time, Terri loved to read, play cards with the neighbors and play Michigan Rummy with the family. Her true passion was Bingo! She would travel as far as New Hampshire to find a Bingo game that fit into her schedule. She also loved taking the bus trips to Foxwoods with the Wilmington Senior Center.

Terri was a woman of great faith and was very dedicated to her religion; she was an active parishioner and volunteer at St. Dorothy’s Church in Wilmington for many years.

After retiring, Terri and Jim looked forward to traveling with family. They enjoyed trips to different parts of the United States, Bermuda, cruises to Alaska, the Panama Canal and the Caribbean. When the New England weather turned cold, Terri and Jim became “snow birds” and headed to Florida where they enjoyed the beach, sun and their Florida friends.

Terri and Jim spent their later years at Atria Longmeadow in Burlington where she continued her love of Bingo and spent time listening to her favorite talk radio programs. She will be fondly remembered as a dedicated Mom who always made her kids favorite birthday cakes, delicious jiffy cookies, hosted Christmas Eve every year and she treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren. Terri will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Terri was the beloved wife of the late James J. “Jim” Davey, devoted mother of Susan Harrison & her husband Don, Bryan Davey & his wife Karen all of Wilmington, Chris Davey & his wife Sandra of North Andover, Peter Davey & his wife Elaine of Groveland, Paul Davey of Dunstable and Joanne LaLiberte & her husband Mark of Cary, NC. Loving grandmother of Ryan Harrison & his wife Richelle, Justin Harrison, Jimmy, Jenna, Bryan and Jason Davey, Cameron & Connor Davey, Ethan & Aidan Davey, Kevin and Patrick LaLiberte and great-granddaughters Madelyn and Colette Harrison. Dear daughter of the late Irene Fortin Eager. Terri is also survived by her sister-in-law Fran Davey, her life-long and dearest friends Evelyn Martineau and Jackie Hamel, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Friday, October 4th for Visitation from 10:00-11:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Dorothy’s Church, Main St. (Rte. 38), Wilmington at 12:00 noon.
