An independent company hired by the town developed a facility master plan and saw the need for a new Senior Center. Simply put, we have outgrown the Buzzell Senior Center.
We want a new senior center for this generation of elders as well as the next generation to come — just like how the seniors of the 80’s did for this generation and took the Senior Center out of the store at the plaza and into the Buzzell. It’s our time.
The Department of Elderly Services staff does very important work helping seniors in Wilmington. I don’t think the people of our town have any idea how important the Buzzell Senior Center is to Wilmington. If you have an elderly family member in town that got help from the center, then maybe you do.
Here is a list of some reasons why the Senior Center is important to the elderly:
- It is a friendly, feel-good safe place.
- Terri and her staff go out of their way to be helpful.
- You can visit the nurse and get the van to take you to medical appointments.
- There are home visits and home delivered meals, informational programs, coffee & conversation in the kitchen, dinners and luncheons, four kinds of exercise, line dancing, Zumba, knitting & crocheting, quilting, painting classes, Wii bowling, ceramics, cards, tai chi, yoga, fun trips & much more. And oh yes, bingo!
Come drop by and see us in action.
Let’s keep the conversation for a new senior center going.
