State Police To Hold Sobriety Checkpoint In Middlesex County This Weekend

BOSTON, MA — The Massachusetts State Police will be holding a Sobriety Checkpoint in Middlesex County on Saturday, September 28, 2019 into Sunday, September 29, 2019.

Wilmington is one of the 54 cities and towns in Middlesex County.

The purpose of the Sobriety Checkpoint is to detect and remove drivers who are operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from the roads. The Checkpoint also raises the public’s awareness of law enforcement’s efforts to combat this serious issue.

“Any inconvenience to motorists will be minimized with advanced notice to reduce fear and anxiety,” said Colonel Kerry A. Gilpin, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, in the announcement. “The selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary. Safety will be assured.”

The Sobriety Checkpoint is funded through a grant provided by the Highway Safety Division of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.

  1. I read the article in regards to police doing random checks on people but drinking and driving. I thought that had become illegal. That that there had to be some form of action to make you think they’re drinking and driving. I am all for preventing drinking and driving. However I am not for a randomly pulling people over for no reason.. I am a disabled person who was once stopped found guilty for drinking and driving when I was not drinking and driving that I was actually sick after they had stopped me I had a seizure because I had cancer and the stress I’m being stalked triggered the seizure with the cancer. Even though that was proven. They did not take that off my record. It did not happen in Massachusetts it happened in another state. My brother lives in Tewksbury I was coming to see him because he’s disabled since birth. But now I have fear to go; that it could happen to me again. When I do not drink and drive and never have. even the officer who actually pulled me over for this said in court that he stalked me and I was not driving in correctly and there was no reason to think that I had been drinking he was just doing a random stop. As much as I want to see people not drinking and driving and be caught if they are these random stops for no reason go against our rights. Actually I forgot since 911 we don’t have rights anymore. But since you’re going to do it anyway I hope you do catch people who are actually drinking and smoking pot while they drive and whatever else they do while they drive that is illegal.
