WILMINGTON, MA — Energetiq Technology, a world leader in high brightness broadband light sources, recently relocated its headquarters from Woburn to Wilmington, a boon to the town’s ramped up economic development efforts.
“Energetiq’s previous home of 15 years is not too far down the road in Woburn, so Wilmington made a lot of sense geographically. Revenue growth and an expanding customer base over the last several years drove the need for a new, expanded space,” explained Mae Steinberg, a representative from Energetiq. “After careful consideration and touring many spaces, our new 32,000 square foot location at 205 Lowell Street was a great fit for us. The bones of the building were close to what we were looking for so it didn’t require a large construction project or building from the ground up. And there is enough space for us to continue to grow.”
The company currently has 60 employees in Wilmington working in Engineering, Manufacturing, Marketing, Operations, Research & Development, Accounting and other departments.
“Finding a new home for our growing workforce and improving employee wellbeing was critical to the team. We chose a facility that could accommodate indoor/outdoor experiences including collaboration areas and quiet spaces strengthening the culture of innovation,” added Energetiq CEO Debbie Gustafson. “This new facility allows us to support Energetiq’s growing customer base by increasing the footprint available for manufacturing, research and development customer support and administrative functions.”
Shortly after arriving in Wilmington, Energetiq joined the Wilmington-Tewksbury Chamber of Commerce and looks forward to being a good corporate citizen in town.
“Energetiq is an organization with a global outlook as more than 75% of our products are exported. That being said, we are still very much a local organization and the decision to join the Wilmington-Tewksbury Chamber of Commerce was an easy one,” said Steinberg. “Our employees are excited to learn more about the town and to support the small businesses that surround us. We hope to join and sponsor local events such as road races and other initiatives to be a thoughtful and supportive neighbor to the Wilmington-Tewksbury community.”
Company officials also noted they plan to participate in outreach activities to encourage the young people of Wilmington to pursue a future in optics or a related field.
Energetiq will be holding a ribbon cutting ceremony in Wilmington on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, followed by a dedication event and guided tours.
The company is a subsidiary of the Japan-based Hamamatsu Photonics, which had a 2018 revenue of $1.3 billion with 5,000 employees worldwide. Energetiq is best known for its innovative light sources, including the Laser-Driven Light Source (LDLS™), Laser-Driven Tunable Light Source (LDTLS™), and the EQ-10 Electrodeless Z-Pinch™ Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) product line.
