NEW LONDON, NH — Raymond J. Spahl, 86, of 332 Parkside Road, died Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at the New London Hospital.
He was born in Worcester, MA on February 26, 1933 the son of Edward and Julia (Smurlik) Spahl.
He graduated from Classical High School, Worcester, MA, University of MA Amherst and earned his Master’s Degree from Northeastern.
Ray was a mechanical engineer and had worked with NASA at Langley Research Center in VA. He worked many years at Pratt and Whitney and retired in 1995 from Stone & Webster.
They made their home in Wilmington, MA where they raised three children and moved to Blodgett’s Landing in 1995, just recently relocating to New London.
Active in the area, Ray volunteered his time for the Newbury Beautification Committee, Habitat for Humanity, The Fells and COA. He enjoyed playing tennis and was able to play right up until a couple of years ago. Ray loved jazz music, the beauty of the Lake Sunapee Region and a good glass of wine.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty (Boucher) Spahl of New London; two daughters and their husbands, Karen and Rodney Robito of Pelham, NH and Lisa Spahl and Marc Aucoin of Henniker, NH; a son, Gary Spahl of Andover, MA; and five grandchildren, Madison, Jordan, Isaac, Molly and Amos.
A celebration of Ray’s life will be held at Blodgett’s Landing Casino Grounds (on Lake Sunapee which Ray loved) in Newbury on Sunday, September 8, 2019 from 1:00-3:00 P.M. Please drop in and join the family and share a memory of Ray. For more info please contact Betty at 603-401-3559.
