Middlesex Canal Association To Hold Bike Tour Of Canal On October 5

WILMINGTON, MA — The Middlesex Canal Association is holding its 17th Annual Bicycle Tour of the Middlesex Canal on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 9am.

Riders will:

  • meet at 9am at Middlesex Canal Plaque at the entrance of the Sullivan Square MBTA Station (1 Cambridge Street, Charlestown)
  • follow the canal route 38 miles towards Lowell
  • stop at the Kiwanis Park in Woburn (2 Alfred Street) around 12:30pm
  • visit the Canal Museum in Billerica (71 Faulkner Street) around 3pm
  • arrive in Lowell in time for the 5pm train back to Boston

Riders can choose their own time to leave the group by using the MBTA Commuter Rail’s Lowell Line, which parallels the canal.

The ride will be easy for most cyclists. The route is relatively flat, and the tour group will average 5 mph. Along the way, the group will stop at several canal remnants and restored sections. If there is steady rain, the event will be cancelled.  Helmets are required for all riders. The tour will be led by Bill Kuttner and Dick Bauer.
