CLEARWATER, FL — Patricia (Patti) Ann Griffin of Clearwater, FL died suddenly, of an undiagnosed heart condition, with her faithful dog, Patrice, by her side, on August 19, 2019. The daughter of Frank and Barbara Griffin (deceased), she was 66 years old. Born and raised in Wilmington, MA, Patti attended Wilmington Public Schools. She then graduated with a BA from Plymouth University and earned a Masters Degree in Education from Golden Gate University. Joining the US Navy in 1983 she became an instructor and was honorably discharged in 1987.
Patti spent the remainder of her professional career dedicated to her beloved students in Bremerton, WA (1989-99), Port Orchard, WA (1999-2005, and Clearwater, FL (2005-17), where she moved in order to be closer to her father. A gifted teacher, she received many accolades, both public and private throughout her 28 years in the classroom. She spoke often and lovingly about “her kids”.
Always a talented athlete, Patti took up golf upon retirement and played at every opportunity with her many friends. She was also an avid animal advocate, photographer and was relearning to play the guitar.
Patti will be sadly missed by her sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Jack Flynn of Newport, RI, her three nephews, Griffin and wife, Lauren, Sean and wife, Marjorie, and Jake Flynn, her 4 great nieces and nephews and her aunts, uncle, and cousins and her many friends and neighbors. She will be remembered for her profound kindness and sage advice.
A gravesite memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Wildwood Cemetery on Wildwood Street in Wilmington.
