LIBRARY LINEUP: Summer Bash With Food Trucks & Live Music Set For August 15 On Swain Green

WILMINGTON, MA — Below is a list of FREE upcoming programs for adults, teens and kids at the Wilmington Memorial Library.

Registration begins 30 days prior to the event. Please register online using our Calendar of Events at www.wilmlibrary.org or by calling (978) 694-2099 (for Adult) or (978) 694-2098 (for Children/Teen). Please note we request registration for programs that are marked *RR. Thank you to the Friends of the Library for funding support for library programs!

Adult Events

Summer Bash *RR
Thursday, August 15, 5:30 pm – 7 pm
Location: Swain Green near 4th of July Building
Celebrate the end of summer with an all-ages party on the Swain Green. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the music of the Squeezebox Stompers – a unique mix of Cajun, Zydeco, Celtic, Country, blues, and jazz featuring accordion, guitar, fiddle, mandolin, saxophone bass, and drums. Dinner is available to purchase from the Fat Belly BBQ and 3rd Alarm Pizza food trucks. Enjoy children’s games and more!

Hitting the road this summer? Join us for an overview of GPS apps like Google Maps and Waze that can help you get where you to want to go. Bring your smartphone for hands-on experience.

How to Tell Stories through Photography* RR
Tuesday, August 13, 7 pm
A picture is worth a thousand words – are your photos speaking volumes? Join award-winning local photographer Lennie Malvone for a photography workshop to learn how to use your photos to tell a story. The class will cover composition, lighting, and tips for capturing a subject or landscape. The class will start with a short lecture inside before moving outdoors to photograph the Wilmington summer sunset, weather permitting. Smartphones, point-and-shoot, and DSLR cameras all welcome.

Walk through the Delta — Blues Concert *RR
Thursday, August 15, 2:30 pm
A Walk through the Delta is both an entertaining and educational overview of early 20th century southern music, primarily from the Black music of the day and its influence on the later jazz, rock music and even bluegrass. Songs are punctuated with foil humor while introducing the audience to the musical styles and key performers of this era. “Poor Howard” Stith has been performing 12-string barrelhouse blues for over forty years in the U.S., Europe, and Japan. Joining “Poor Howard” is 40 year veteran harmonica player, Mike “Bullfrog” Rogers.

Come meet and read to Thor, a beautiful dog who loves to listen to kids read! Sign up for one 15 minute session per reader. Grades K-3

Cookin’ the Books: Back-to-School Brunch *RR
Saturday, August 17, 11 am
Kick off the new school year by channeling your inner Iron Chef! Make a recipe from Bobby Flay’s Brunch at Bobby’s cookbook, and bring in a batch to share with other teens as you also sample theirs! Copies are available at the Youth Services Desk beginning July 17. Grades 9-12

Board Game Club *RR

Food For Fines
In lieu of fines, WML will accept items for the Wilmington Food Pantry during August. We ask that the donation be comparable to the fines that are owed.
