WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington’s Tremezzo empire is expanding.
Rick Lowe, owner of the popular Tremezzo Ristorante, opened Josie’s Bakery in April. Now he’s planning on opening a pizza shop in town.
Lowe recently confirmed with Wilmington Apple that he is in the final stages of purchasing Uncle Mickey’s, located at 296 Shawsheen Avenue.
“The sale is in progress,” said Lowe. “We hope to open by the end of August or early September, pending approvals from the town.”
The restaurant, which will be called “Tremezzo Pizzeria,” will specialize in “old-school sheet pizza.” Other unique offerings are promised to be on the menu.
Lowe, who opened Tremezzo Ristorante at 2 Lowell Street four years ago, was recently awarded the Wilmington-Tewksbury Chamber of Commerce’s “Carmon Cunningham Business Legacy Award” for both his business’s success and generosity to the community.
“Rick lives in a neighboring community, but he’s embraced Wilmington. He hires Wilmington kids. He gets to know people by their first names. Rick is an exmpletary business member of this community,” said former Selectman and Chamber member Mike Champoux prior to presenting the award. “So many teams come and have their banquets here. BNI, a business networking group, is hosted here. The Rotary Club is hosted here. So many organizations call Tremezzo home, and that’s because of the hospitality of Rick and his family and his staff.”
“Rick and his staff give back to the community by holding fundraising events that benefit local groups in Wilmington,” added another Chamber member. “Rick also donates his time and food to those in need. Tremezzo has embedded themselves into the fabric of Wilmington since day one of the restaurant’s opening. I am proud of the way that Rick has demonstrated that giving back to Wilmington is a priority for him and his staff.”
Tremezzo Ristorante was recently named Wilmington’s “Best Restaurant For Lunch,” “Best Restaurant For Dinner,” “Best Fine Dining Restaurant,” “Best Italian Restaurant,” and “Best Bar” in Wicked Local’s Annual Readers Choice Awards.
Lowe hopes to replicate Tremezzo Ristorante’s success and community involvement with his latest venture, Tremezo Pizzeria.
