Keolis Commuter Services (Keolis), the MBTA’s operating partner for commuter rail, is pleased to announce that two additional trains will operate on the Lowell Line during the Lowell Folk Festival. Regular Saturday and Sunday schedules will be in effect on Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28. For those attending the festival’s evening activities, late-night trains will depart Lowell at 11:50 p.m. Friday and at 12:25 a.m. Sunday.
Taking place Friday through Saturday, the Lowell Folk Festival is longest running and second largest free folk festival in the United States. With special $10 unlimited weekend fares on commuter rail, passengers can travel to and from the festival all weekend while avoiding traffic and parking. Up to two children 11 years old and under may travel for free with a paying adult, making travel by rail to Lowell a convenient and affordable option.
“Hundreds of thousands of passengers have enjoyed commuter rail travel with $10 weekends. We hope even more leisure travelers will take advantage of this popular and convenient option to visit Lowell over the weekend,” said David Scorey, Keolis General Manager and CEO. “The ability for each paying adult to bring up to two children for free provides families with a hassle-free transportation option so they can spend more time enjoying the journey and less time thinking about gas, traffic or parking.”
Unlimited weekend tickets may be purchased on mTicket, on board with cash or credit card or in ticket offices located at Boston’s Back Bay, North and South Stations. They are valid for one weekend, from the first scheduled train Saturday morning until the last Sunday evening.

The fifth largest commuter rail operation in North America, the system carries approximately 127,000 daily passengers throughout the greater Boston area and services 139 stations over 394 miles.
