OBITUARY: Hobart W. Spring, Jr., 88

SALEM, NH — Hobart (Hoby) W. Spring Jr. (88), of Salem, NH died peacefully Thursday, June 27th at Salemhaven Long Term Care Center.

Hoby was born in Brockton, MA, the son of the late Hobart W. Spring Sr. and Elizabeth (Walker) Spring. He grew up in Wilmington, MA, attended Phillips Academy Andover and graduated from Wilmington High School and University of Rhode Island. He served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers from 1953 to 1955. He worked as an engineer at Avco Corporation from 1955 to 1972, after which he became a private financial consultant in Boston, MA. In 2000, he moved his business to Salem, NH before joining Travis Terry & Company, and later retiring in 2015. Hoby loved skiing and had a lifelong passion for golf, playing well into his mid-eighties. An avid reader, he also enjoyed cooking, card games, and witty banter.

Hoby is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary Jean (Ness) Spring of Salem, NH; his two sons, Ryan Spring and wife Stacey of Groton, MA, and Kurt Spring and wife Holly of Winchester, MA; his brother, Walker Spring of Wilmington, MA; his sister, Susan Raesner of Narragansett, RI; four grandchildren, Owen, Eleanor, Walker and Kellan; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his half-brother, Howard Spring.

The Spring family would like to acknowledge and thank the wonderful staff at Salemhaven who provided support and care for Hoby and the family over the last two years.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 2nd from 10am to 12pm at the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Road, Windham, NH. A memorial service will follow in the funeral home at 12pm.

Memorial contributions in Hoby’s name may be made to Salemhaven Long Term Care and Rehabilitation Center.
