WILMINGTON, MA — Below are 5 things to do in Wilmington on Monday, June 3, 2019:
#1) Remembering Pleasure Island At Wilmington Library
The Wilmington Memorial Library (175 Middlesex Avenue) is holding a presentation on Pleasure Island at 2:30pm. Bob McLaughlin, founder of the Friends of Pleasure Island, will talk about the history of the theme park known as “Disneyland East.” Pleasure Island, located in Wakefield, operated from 1959-1969 and drew thousands of visitors each year. #2) Water Color Class At Wilmington Senior Center
The Wilmington Senior Center (15 School Street) is holding a water color class at 12:30pm. This class is to learn the basics of mixing colors and handling the watercolor medium. All are welcome to join this class. Space is limited. Registration is required. A list of supplies needed will be provided.
#3) WHS Girls Tennis Team In State Tournament
The WHS Girls Tennis Team takes on Newburyport at Atkinson Common (30 Plummer Avenue, Newburyport) at 3:30pm in the first-round of the state tournament.
#4) Deadline For CCD Registration Coming Up
The Parish of the Transfiguration (St. Thomas and St. Dorothy) of Wilmington is currently accepting registration forms for its 2019-2020 Faith Formation program for Grades 1-10. Classes are filled on a first come, first serve basis and registration ends on June 30, 2019. The registration form can be found HERE. #5) Wildcat Sports Summer Clinics Coming Up
During the summer, the Wilmington High School Athletic Department will be sponsoring a series of sports clinics for children in Grades 1-8.
The clinics will be held at the Wilmington Middle School (25 Carter Lane). Please note this is a change from last year’s high school location.
All clinics will be run by WHS Coaches, Alumni and Athletes.
The cost of each clinic is $175 per child per clinic with the exception of Boys Soccer and Track, which has a cost $150 per child. Additional clinic enrollment is discounted $25 per clinic. (I.e. Siblings attending camps are $175 each; the next camp is $150 per child per clinic).
Here is the summer sports clinic schedule:
- June 17 to June 21: Boys Basketball, Field Hockey
- June 24 to June 28: Girls Basketball, Flag Football
- July 1 to July 5 (no clinic on July 4): Boys Soccer, Track
- July 8 to July 12: All Sports
- July 15 to July 19: Girls Soccer, Volleyball
All clinics, with the exception of Boys Soccer and Track, will run 8:30am-2:30pm Monday through Thursday and 8:30am -12:30pm on Friday. Boys Soccer and Track will run 8:30am – 2:30pm Monday- Friday (no session on 7/4).
The focus of each clinic is the development of skills through activity based drills and scrimmages. The ultimate goal of the clinics is to develop children who enjoy participating in athletics.
