WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington High School Varsity Softball team (7-5) was defeated by Burlington a score of 9-0 on Wednesday May 15, 2019.
The Wildcats’ inability to get timely hits or put down bunts really cost them. For three innings, the lead off batter got on and each time they were stranded. Their best opportunity came in the sixth with a lead off triple by Jenna Sweeney.
The costly inning for Wilmington was the fourth where Burlington scored 6 runs. This inning saw two batters being hit by pitch as well as 2 two-run home runs.
“This is the second time we played Burlington and, as was the case last time, they beat us soundly,” said Coach Audrey Cabral. “We did a great job defended the bunt — which hurt us tremendously last time — but for the third game in a row, our bats were just silent”.
