SELECTMEN NEWS: Town Meeting Review Committee Update & 4 More Things That Happened At This Week’s Meeting

WILMINGTON, MA — Below are FIVE more things that happened at the Wilmington Board of Selectmen’s Meeting on Monday, May 13, 2019:

#1) TOWN MEETING REVIEW COMMITTEE UPDATE: After a lengthy discussion, the Board of Selectmen asked Town Manager Jeff Hull to contact the Town Inhabitant Bylaws Review Committee members to gage their interest in taking on the work that was going to be assigned to the Town Meeting Review Committee. Otherwise, a separate Town Meeting Review Committee will be created. Selectmen are looking for recommendations on changes to improve the efficiency and turnout as Annual Town Meeting by the end of this calendar year, so proposals can be placed on the 2020 Town Meeting Warrant and go in front of residents for a vote.

#2) CONCERTS ON THE COMMON APPROVED: The Board of Selectmen approved the request of Recreation Director Karen Campbell to use the Town Common and Gazebo for the Summer Concert Series on Wednesday, July 10, 17, 24, and 31. (Rain dates are Thursday, July 11, 18, 25, and August 1.)  The lineup of musical acts has been announced HERE.

#3) COUNCIL OF THE ARTS APPOINTMENT: The Board of Selectmen appointed Diane L. Giamberardino to the Wilmington Council of the Arts Advisory Board to a 1-year term.

#4) BLOCK PARTY APPROVED: The Board of Selectmen approved the request of Kristen Stokes for residents of Jacob Street to have a Neighborhood Block Party on Saturday, June 8, 2019, from 2pm to 9pm.

#5) SUMMER SCHEDULE SET: The Board of Selectmen set its summer meeting schedule — Monday, July 8, 2019 and Monday, August 12, 2019.

ALSO: Selectman Kevin Caira publicly congratulated 2019 Wilmington Good Guy Award winner Mike Burns and recently retired Police Chief Michael Begonis… Selectman Mike McCoy raved about the recent Wilmington Special Olympics…. Selectwoman Jomarie O’Mahony challenged her colleagues to join her in participating in the Wilmington Rotary Club’s Ice Bucket Challenge later this summer.
