5 Things To Do In Wilmington On Friday, May 17, 2019

WILMINGTON, MA — Below are 5 things to do in Wilmington on Friday, May 17, 2019:

#1) WHS Lamplighters Presents The Drowsy Chaperone

The WHS Lamplighters present The Drowsy Chaperone on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 7pm and Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 2pm and 7pm in Wilmington High’s Joanne Benton Auditorium (159 Church Street). Tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for students, senior citizens and military. Please note this play is not appropriate for children under 12.

Winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Book and Best Original Score, The Drowsy Chaperoneis a loving send-up of the Jazz Age musical, featuring one show-stopping song and dance number after another.

With the houselights down, a man in a chair appears on stage and puts on his favorite record: the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical. The recording comes to life and The Drowsy Chaperone begins as the man in the chair looks on. Mix in two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not-so-bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan and an intoxicated chaperone, and you have the ingredients for an evening of madcap delight.

Hailed by New York Magazine as “The Perfect Broadway Musical,” The Drowsy Chaperone is a masterful meta-musical, poking fun at all the tropes that characterize the musical theatre genre.

When arriving for the event, please enter Wilmington High through the right rear event entrance. Free parking is available in the high school parking lot (entrance from Adams Street) and across the street near the 4th of July Building parking lot on Middlesex Avenue.
