WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington High School Varsity Softball team (3-2) defeated Wakefield High by a score of 3-1 on Monday, April 29, 2019.
The Wildcats spotted Wakefield a run in the top of the first on a walk, an error and an infield out, but pitcher Ally Moran roared back by allowing only 1 hit while striking out 10 in the contest.
The Wildcats struggled to get on base, but did manage to plate 3 runs in the bottom of the third. Left fielder Kacie Bourrell led off with a single. With one out, Ashley Crawford reached base on an error, moving Bourrell to second. Ally Moran loaded the bases with her first of two singles for the game. Bella Kieran singled to left plating Bourrell. With two outs and bases full, Chase Anderson came up and stroked a 2 RBI single of her own.
In the fourth inning, Jenna Sweeney roped a 2-out double but was stranded there.
In the bottom of the sixth, Bourrell made a nice catch on a deep fly ball to left.
“We won today, but it was not pretty,” said Coach Audrey Cabral. “We need to be more patient at the plate going forward as well as being able to execute our short game.”
