WILMINGTON, MA — At their meeting on Monday night, the Board of Selectmen unanimously agreed to establish a committee to review options to provide an ice rink for the Town of Wilmington.
“We want to make sure the youth of Wilmington have a place…, whether it’s the Wilmington Figure Skating Club, Wilmington Youth Hockey, or the Wilmington High School hockey teams,” said Selectman Chair Kevin Caira, who proposed the committee. “This committee [will] review and look over options that are possibly out there for us.”
Based on preliminary discussions, the Committee will consist of a representative from Wilmington Youth Hockey, Wilmington Figure Skating, the Wilmington High School’s Athletic Department, the Town’s Finance Department, and the Board of Selectmen.
Selectman Mike McCoy volunteered to be the board’s representative to the Ice Rink Committee.
Selectman Greg Bendel asked that the “ball get rolling”on the committee as soon as possible.
Selectman Jonathan Eaton concurred, and stressed he wants to see each of the rink’s different stakeholders have a seat on the committee.
Hull also noted that he has exchanged emails with the new owner of Ristuccia Arena and will meet with him, possibly as early as this week, to get a better sense of where Wilmington’s hockey and skating programs fit in to future of the rink.
