LETTER TO THE EDITOR: New Resident Calls For Change, Supports Fasulo & Sullivan For Selectmen

Dear Editor,

I write because this town is in desperate need for a change of government. The residents of Wilmington need to understand where our town is headed and how we all can help to change it.

As a relatively new Wilmington resident, my wife and I have learned that this town’s government is nothing more than a corrupt, self-absorbed “inner circle.” Aside of Selectman Michael McCoy, I am yet to see a town official that puts the citizens of Wilmington before themselves. All it takes is for you to do a little homework about our board members to realize who is working with who, who’s related to who, who is doing business with who, and who has a past history with who. What we are dealing with is nothing more than a group of politicians taking care of themselves and their own at the public’s expense.

The people and residents of Wilmington are the last priority for Wilmington’s political decisions. This needs to change.

Town officials are supposed to look out for the benefit and well-being of their residents. Most of our fellow citizens believe elected and appointed officials exist to help make the Town of Wilmington a better place for its-people to live. What we have is just the opposite. Our political representatives are only looking out for themselves and what they can gain for themselves personally, not what we the people need, want or deserve. If the people of Wilmington knew of all the things really going on behind the scenes with this town there would be a revolt. Open your eyes people! Your town officials are not looking out for your best interests. They are only concerned with taking care of themselves.

There are groups of residents within this town who actively hold meetings each month to discuss where our town is going and how it’s on a downward spiral. If you have any interest in hearing about the way this town is being run all you have to do is attend one of these meetings and you will be dumbfounded. It’s absolutely shameful that the town doesn’t care enough to elect or appoint responsible people to oversee the town’s best interests. The only way we as citizens can actually keep an eye on this and stop it going forward is to Vote for Change at the upcoming selectmen’s election.

The same people getting voted or appointed year after year to our political boards is not going to solve this crisis. Change needs to happen and it needs to happen Now! We need board members who can make decisions based on the best interests of the residents. We need people who can bring new ideas to the table. I’m tired of seeing the “follow the leader” mentality when votes are being cast or decisions are being made. What good is it for us to have a voting process when all we are doing is voting for the same candidates over and over again? When it comes to hiring new candidates for our boards all we are doing is voting for or appointing new individuals with the same mindset but a different face? How does that bring change? How are we progressing as a community when all you see when you drive through town is empty buildings and outdated business facades?

Rather than make an effort to improve these areas of need we instead give free reign to developers to intrude on our unsettled lands to build brand new structures. Shouldn’t we concentrate less on filling developer’s pockets and more on overcoming our existing hurdles?

We need to stop ignoring our town’s real issues and start finding solutions to fix them. We can’t correct the future without dealing with the present.

Our only hope going forward is to bring new faces, new ideas and new attitudes to our boards. With the coming Board of Selectmen’s election Suzanne Sullivan and Rob Fasulo should be our logical choices for selectmen on the April 27th election. They are both intelligent and determined individuals. They bring thoughts and ideas of their own and not what the “settled establishment” prefers. They will fight for and support the people. They will work diligently with Wilmington’s citizens to ensure that their voices will be heard. They are not in the “click” with the rest of the “good old boys “who make up this town’s government. They are independent citizens with independent thoughts. They are people no different than you or I or your neighbors. They are people who care about this town and its residents. Their ideas and decision making will benefit you and your family not “them” and “their” families.

I think it’s time we as a community need to ask ourselves if we want to continue down a road that is paved in deception, self-fulfillment and corruption or a road that’s paved in dependency, integrity and admiration. We all can have a hand in changing Wilmington into the prosperous and fruitful town it should be. Please make it to your local poll on Election Day and vote in support of Suzanne Sullivan and Rob Fasulo and let’s help make Wilmington the great town it deserves to be!

Sincerely,

Shane McNeeley
