WILMINGOTN, MA — WHS student athletes Alyssa Bernazani and Emma Garrity were recognized on Thursday at a National Letter of Intent ceremony at Wilmington High.
“We’re here to recognize two wonderful student athletes who will be signing college scholarship and competing at the highest level in the country,” said Wilmington Athletic Director Tim Alberts. “It’s an amazing opportunity. Only 3% of high school students play in college, and to compete at the Division I level is just remarkable.”
Garrity will be joining the Track & Field team at Bryant University, while Bernazani will be playing soccer at Merrimack College.
Both young women spoke for about a minute each, thanking their families, parents, coaches, and teammates.
Coaches Sue Hendee and Brian Schell (via a letter read by Alberts) also shared a few words, praising both athletes for their accomplishments.
