WILMINGTON, MA — Below are 5 things to do in Wilmington on Saturday, December 8, 2018:

#1) Sole Sisters’ Winter SOLEstice 5K

The Wilmington-based Sole Sisters Running Club is holding its First Annual Winter SOLEstice 5K at 10am, beginning on the Wilmington Town Common (142 Middlesex Avenue). The race day entry fee is $35. Race day registration and bib pickup will take place from 8am to 9:30am inside the Wilmington High School cafeteria (159 Church Street). Cash or checks only. The first 200 registrants are guarantee a free, long-sleeve race shirt. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 3 overall female and male finishers. Age group winners will also be crowned in the following categories: 18 and under; 19-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; and 60+. #2) WHS Boys Basketball, Wrestling Teams Start Season

The Wilmington High School Boys Varsity Basketball Team is hosting Notre Dame at 7pm at Wilmington High. In lieu of admission, bring a food item for the food pantry! Needed items include Mac & Cheese, Brownie Mix, Condiments, Baked Beans, Rice, Instant Potatoes, and Granola Bars.

Also, the Wilmington High School Wrestling Team is hosting Hopkinton and Whittier Tech at 10am at Wilmington High.

#3) Deming Way Christmas Craft Fair

Residents of Deming Way will hold their annual Christmas Craft Fair from 9am to 2pm at Deming Way (41 Deming Way). The fair offers handcrafted gifts for sale, with a “white elephant” table. Baked goods (cookies, cakes and pies) will also be available for purchase. In addition, select prized items are raffled off each year, from unique handcrafted items to gift certificates donated by stores and eateries. The raffle selection begins at the end of the fair.

The Christmas Craft Fair is the Deming Way Tenants Association’s biggest fundraising event of the year. Proceeds fund rental buses for trips, bingo, group dinners and other entertainment at their community center throughout the year. The Deming Way Tenants Association and Community Center are completely separate from the Wilmington Senior Center; however, as residents of Wilmington, the senior citizens are still able to attend the Senior Center and take advantage of the activities there.

#4) Breakfast with Mrs. Claus

Mrs. Claus recently stopped by the Wilmington United Methodist Church Christmas Tree Sale to invite all the children to join her for breakfast at 9am at the Church. The event is sponsored by the United Methodist Men and is open to all the children in Wilmington. The menu will feature pancakes, eggs, sausages and all the trimmings and Mrs. Claus herself will read a Christmas story to all the children. #5) Antique Show at Shriners Auditorium 

The largest indoor antiques show in New England is coming to the Shriners Auditorium (99 Fordham Road) in Wilmington today, from 10am to 5pm, and tomorrow, from 11am to 4pm. The show, which features more than 100 dealers with an eclectic mix of antiques, vintage and decorative arts plus a great selection of rare and vintage books and ephemera, has been named one of the best antique fairs by Yankee Magazine. Boston Metro Hi-Railers Holiday Open House

The Boston Metro Hi-Railers model train club will host its holiday season open house from 10am to 4pm at 5 Waltham Street in Wilmington. Admission costs $10 for families and $5 for individuals. Children under 10 are FREE. The open house will feature attractions for families, train enthusiasts and hobbyists alike. The three children’s layouts allow boys and girls of all sizes to have a hands on experience running trains, operating trackside accessories or just watching others. Learn more HERE.

Ahern Family Charitable Foundation’s Army-Navy Football Luncheon

The Ahern Family Charitable Foundation, which has ties to Wilmington, will host its 15th Annual Army-Navy Football Luncheon fundraiser at 2pm at the Scoreboard Sports Bar & Grill in Woburn. Proceeds from the luncheon will support Massachusetts children of fallen and deployed troops this holiday season through Operation Santa-Massachusetts, a program created in partnership with the Military Friends Foundation. Tickets are available now at http://www.ahernfoundation.org. Attendees of the event will watch the 119th playing of the Army-Navy Football game across nearly 50 HDTVs in the newly renovated Scoreboard Sports Bar & Grill. Drop Off Your Leaves

The Town’s Recycling Center, located off Old Main Street at the Wilmington/Woburn line, is open for leaf and brush drop-off from 9am to 4pm. Only Wilmington residents are allowed to use the facility. Residents must show an ID at the entrance to the facility. No grass clippings will be accepted. No contractors or commercial vehicles will be allowed. Residents using the Recycling Center must purchase a punch card for $15 which will be good for 5 visits to the center. Punch cards may be purchased Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Treasurer’s Office at Town Hall. Cards purchased previously that have unpunched visits are still valid.

Baby Story Time At Library

The Wilmington Memorial Library (175 Middlesex Avenue) is holding a drop-in baby story time at 9:30am. Babies and their caregivers will enjoy this fun storytime that includes rhymes, songs, books, scarves, shakers, bubbles and more. Infants through 24 months.

Pokemon Club At Library

The Wilmington Memorial Library (175 Middlesex Avenue) invites Pokémon lovers to play the game, trade cards and have fun! Grades 1+. No registration required.
