WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington Apple recently caught up with Amanda Munsie, the Manager of the Wilmington Farmers Market.
How has the Wilmington Farmers Market’s Winter Season been going?
“We’ve got a great interest from our vendors. We have a lot of our past vendors participating. I think people are still getting used to the idea of having a winter market and changing their schedules to come. I would encourage people to give us a try and come on it. We’ve also got some new vendors this season.”
Who are some of your new vendors this season?
“We have Rustic Life Farm. They do hand soaps. We have Bee Balm Co.. They do lip balm and lotions. We have Hannah’s Herbals. They do teas and tinctures. And we have Sweet Lydia’s. Their chocolates are delicious.”
How did the Winter Market wind up at the Wilmington Methodist Church?
“It’s really funny. We actually started at the Methodist Church. Eight years ago, when I met [Wilmington Farmers Market Association President] Dana Burnham, we were actually in Scouts, which met here at the church. She was talking about a Farmers Market, I overheard her, and that’s how we got started. Dana suggested we reach out to the Church to see if they’d have us back, and they said ‘yes.’ We’re a community event and the church supports its community.”
Aside from shopping, how can residents help the Farmers Market?
“We’re always in need of volunteers. All ages, but it’s a great opportunity for teenagers who need community service hours. Usually it’s an hour before market. If you just want to show up from 1pm-2pm to help set up tables or from 4pm-5pm to help us break down.
We also still need people to serve on our board — marketing, outreach, education. We have openings in those areas.
“We offer spots to non-profits. If you’re a not-profit, you can come. It’s a free table. You can come up to two times this winter season.”
When is the Wilmington Farmers Market open in the winter?
“Our remaining winter dates are January 6, February 3, March 10, April 14 and May 5. Those are Sundays from 2pm to 4pm at the Wilmington Methodist Church.”
