WILMINGTON, MA — At last week’s Wilmington Board of Selectmen’s Meeting, Town Manager Jeff Hull announced that the Wilmington Finance Committee will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, November 20 at 7pm in Town Hall’s Room 9.
Several big issues are on the agenda:
- Committee members will hear from the Town and School Departments about efforts to increase collaboration with respect to purchase of hardware and software. Members would also like to hear about a shared long-term strategy for IT deployment. Jeff Hull, Town Accountant Mike Morris, Town IT Director John O’Neil, School Superintendent Dr. Glenn Brand, and Assistant Superintendent Paul Ruggiero will participate in the discussion.
- Committee members will hear about plans to address Wilmington Fire Department’s Squad One fire engine, which was recently taken out of service due to a rusted frame. The Fire Chief and Deputy Fire Chief are finalizing costs for the purchase of a new engine. Conversations are taking place with several vendors on the state bid list.
- Committee members will hear an update on the status of the Fire Department’s overtime costs. The Fire OT budget is expected to be exceeded by a significant margin this fiscal year due to the ongoing vacancies resulting from firefighters absent due to work injures, non-work injuries, and military deployment.
The Committee will also discuss a recent presentation given to Selectmen about restructuring the Town Accountant position. Current Town Accountant Mike Morris is slated to retire in July 2019.
