WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington School Committee member MJ Byrnes has been appointed to the Massachusetts Early Education & Care Workforce Council by State Senator Bruce Tarr.
“I’ve very humbled and proud,” said Byrnes. “I’m grateful for and still a little wow’ed as I learn more about what that council does…. I’m looking forward to this new challenge.”
The council’s primary function is to make recommendations on improving and enhancing professional development and higher education opportunities necessary for the growth and stability of a high quality early education and care workforce.
The Commissioner of Early Education and Care consults with the council when establishing professional development and higher education opportunities for early educators. The council also offer comments on any rules or regulations proposed by the Board of Early Education and Care as it relates early education and care professional development, training and career support.
Byrnes noted her unpaid, three-year appointment won’t impact her roles and responsibilities on the Wilmington School Committee. She’s currently serving her seventh year on the Committee.
