WILMINGTON, MA — At Wednesday night’s School Committee Meeting, Superintendent Dr. Glenn Brand announced the details of the search for a new and permanent principal for Wilmington Middle School.
“This will be a wide-open open search that will be advertised broadly,” Brand told committee members. “This process will be inclusive of key stakeholders, through, and balanced in terms of gathering feedback and information on potential candidates.”
A search committee will be formed to receive and screen initial applications and conduct screening interviews to identity the candidates to move forward in the process for further consideration. The committee will consist of 4 middle school teachers, 2 middle school assistant principals/CTLs, 1 support staff member, 1 central office administrator, 4 middle school parents/guardians, and 1 principal/director. The Wilmington Teachers Association will assist in selecting teacher representatives, while the Middle School PAC will assist with the selection of parent/guardian volunteers.
Brand outlined the following search timeline:
- November 19 — Position Advertised
- December 5 — Community Forum
- December 10 — Staff Forum
- January 4 — Deadline to receive applications
- Mid-January — Initial interviews conducted by Search Committee
- Week of January 28 — Finalists Announced
- Week of February 4 — Finalists visit Wilmington
- Week of February 11 — Site visits to finalists’ home districts
- Week of February 25 — Finalist selected & announced by Superintendent
Brand stressed there will be numerous opportunities for staff members and community members to become involved in the process. A survey will be emailed to staff and the community at the start of December to gather feedback on the qualities, characteristics and experiences sought in the next principal. A staff forum will be held on Wednesday, December 5, and a community forum will be held on December 10, to help establish the ideal candidate’s profile. Staff and community members will also have opportunities to meet the finalists and offer feedback when the finalists visit the district in early February.
The position will be advertised on SchoolSpring, Massachusetts School Administrators’ Association (MSAA), National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), and TopSchoolJobs.
The selected candidate is expected to begin on July 1, 2019, or sooner, as negotiated with the Superintendent.
