First Impressions *RR

In a networked social-mediated world, every detail of every candidate can be searched and scrutinized. A good first impression, whether in person or online, has become crucial to a candidate’s success in the job market. This presentation will examine verbal, nonverbal, conscious, unconscious, and electronic elements of a good first impression. Presented by Randall Warniers, who is a freelance editor, book designer, book publisher and facilitator of the leadership team at Acton Networkers.

Creative Writing Skill Group *RR
October 23, 7 pm
Learn and apply creative writing tips, tools, and techniques shared by published authors and other writing experts. Open to all who want to improve their creative writing skills and get their work published. Led by local writing enthusiast Barbara Alevras.

Featured Book: My Brilliant Friendby Elena Ferrante
The featured book this month is in keeping with the library’s celebration of Italian American Heritage Month. A New York Timesbest seller, My Brilliant Friend,tells the story of lifelong friends Elena Greco and Lila Cerullo, two Italian women who grew up together in the same small town just outside of Naples in the years immediately following World War II. Join us for a discussion of this book!

Haunted Lighthouses of New England*RR

Learn about some of New England’s haunted lighthouses and fascinating ghost stories. Jeremy D’Entremont, writer, photographer, and maritime historian provides an exciting presentation on haunted lighthouses and New England. Jeremy’s presentation combines historic and new photos, film clips, and audio clips.

Jerry Thornton: Five Rings *RR
Thursday, November 1, 7 pm
Bestselling author and sports personality Jerry Thornton will talk about his new book Five Rings: The Super Bowl History of the New England Patriots (So Far). Since 2001 the Patriots have played in eight Super Bowl championships and won five, a run of excellence unparalleled in all of professional sports. Jerry will provides an insider’s view of the Patriots’ years of unparalleled greatness from the unique perspective of an utterly dedicated fan. Jerry writes daily for Barstool Sports and co-hosts their NFL podcast Laces Out.  He is also a standup comic.
