WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington Apple is asking weekly questions to the three candidates running for the Wilmington/Tewksbury State Representative seat (19th Middlesex).
Below, in her own words, is the response to one of this week’s questions from candidate Pina Prinzivalli (R-Tewksbury).
#1) How do you plan on voting on each of the three ballot questions? Can you explain your rationale behind each vote? (Background: https://www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/ele18/ballot_questions_18/ballot_questions18.htm)
Locking in on the ballot questions with a month to go is early. Especially given the amount of information that is coming out on a daily basis with regards to Question 1. But at the moment, I’m leaning towards no on all three.
Question 1: I’ve spoken to nurses on both sides of the issue. It’s incredible how back and forth the debate has been and will continue to be right down to the wire. Patient to nurse limits seems like something that should be worked out in collective bargaining and not through unfunded government mandates. A new report that came out this past week highlighting the potential costs associated with the passage of this question is alarming.
Question 2: The end game of the proposed commission appears to be unconstitutional. The commission that would be created with the passage of this question is seeking to limit 1st Amendment rights. When elected, I’m sworn to an oath to protect and support the Constitution. Anything that endangers that oath is a definite no from me.
Question 3: This particular law doesn’t include reasonable protections for the right to privacy and safety for women and children. Those protections were rejected by the legislature when the law was passed. I’d like to see those protections readdressed so everyone’s rights are covered within the law.
