WILMINGTON, MA — Kimberly A. (Verheyen) Delling, 52, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness, with her husband and family by her side.
Kim was born at Symmes Hospital in Arlington and was raised in Woburn, Mass. She attended Woburn schools and graduated with the class of 1985 from Woburn High School. Kim went on to attend Middlesex Community College and Bryant College, graduating in 1988 with a Bachelors of Arts degree.
In 1997, Kim and Michael were married and she became step mother to Brittany and Christy. She was devoted to her family and always there to support and encourage her children in whatever was happening in their lives. She became a hockey mom, school fundraiser, and PTO advocate in support of her girls. She loved having a full house of kids around and was a second mom to a lot of her daughter’s friends and also the children of her friends and colleagues. Everyone loved to be mothered by Kimmy. She was a very generous person and loved to spoil those near and dear to her.
Kim’s career blossomed when she became a Realtor. She loved being a real estate agent and it was a career well suited to her outgoing personality, based on making relationships and helping people . Not only was she successful in her business but she made lifelong friends from her colleagues and clients.
Along with her husband Michael, Kim loved to entertain and party plan, whether it was a backyard BBQ, holiday meal or a corporate event, she would famous for always having made too much food. She loved to cook and learned her culinary talents much from her mother in law. She also had a very special group of lifelong friends who loved to cook, and they would have many get togethers making the most wonderful meals.
Through their 21 years of marriage, Kim and Michael could often be found at home with family but they also loved to dine out, attend Bruins games and travel. Their adventures took them to many warm destinations of the Caribbean enjoying places such as Jamaica, Aruba and Turks & Caicos.
In her spare time Kim loved to volunteer, and her favorite cause was to support her heroes. She was an active supporter of armed force soldiers, first responders, homeless vets and wounded warriors. Over the years, she supported the Wilmington Food pantry, the Woburn Tanner Ta Tas, and Realtors Against Poverty(RAP) foundations. She supported many others in their fight against cancer, often providing support and care for others during their treatment and was a spotlight survivor for the Dana Farber cancer center and Jimmy Fund organizations.
After learning of her illness, in true Kim fashion, she did not let this news defeat her. She stayed positive, courageous, and encouraged her family and friends to do the same. Her battle was long, but not lost because to her, each day was a blessing and she made the most of it. Her positive attitude was contagious, and a smile always came to her when someone remarked they didn’t even know she was sick! That was how she wanted it to be.
Kim was courageous in living with metastatic breast cancer but it wasn’t all about the fight for her. Her goal was to live as well as possible, find ways to help others cope with illness, offer positivity and build relationships with those she loved. She had an amazing positive impact on many lives and touched many hearts.
Kimberly leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, bravery, and friendship. She is survived by her husband Michael Delling along with her stepdaughters Brittany Delling and her companion Todd Muir of Haverhill and Christy Delling and her Fiancé Charles Cann of Tewksbury. She was the cherished daughter of Ellen B. (Chisholm) Verheyen and the late Ronald W. Verheyen. Dear sister of Karen A. Verheyen Mottola and her husband Patsy Mottola and Kathy Verheyen and her companion Jay Altavesta. She leaves behind her dearest in laws Robert and Janis Delling along with her brothers in law David Delling and his wife Linda, and Christopher and his wife Michelle. In addition to her extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins, she is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Saturday, September 29th at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Anthony’s Church, 851 Main Street, Woburn at 10. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Funeral Home on Friday from 3 – 7 p.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. Remembrances may be made in Kim’s memory to support Dr. Erica Mayer’s Breast Cancer Research Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284.
