WILMINGTON, MA — Below is a round-up of what’s going on in Wilmington on Saturday, September 8, 2018:
Weather: Partly sunny, with a high near 71. Northeast wind 7 to 9 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
Yard Sale: The Wilmington High School Band Parents and the Wilmington Sons of Italy will hold their annual Yard Sale. The event will be from 8am to 3pm at the Town Common parking lot. The Band Parents and Sons of Italy will also be holding a BBQ to raise money and there will be some music.
Yard Sale: The Wilmington United Methodist Church’s Outreach Committee is holding a yard sale from 9am to 2pm on the church lawn. The majority of items being sold represent the generous donations made to the Wish Project, but that are not generally distributed to warehouse clients. These include: decorative glassware, silver/gold trim china, stemware and holiday themed items, plus men’s and women’s dress pants with the tags still attached and an overflow of toys for all ages. All proceeds will benefit The Wish Project and their work in helping families move out of shelters and into their own apartments.
Yard Sale: Multi-family yard-sale at 84 Church Street from 8am to 12pm, across from the Methodist church. Quite a lot of gently used infant and toddler toys, clothes, and gear, among other things.
In The Community: Wilmington’s Boy Scout Troop 136 is holding a Car Wash fundraiser from 8am to 1pm at the Friendship Lodge (32 Church Street). All proceeds will benefit the McLaren family of Wilmington. On July 30, Tom McLaren was injured in a motorcycle accident on his way to work on Route 128. He remains hospitalized with serious injuries. Tom’s family includes his wife Wanda, and his two children, Leila and David. David is a member of Troop 136. For those who are out of town and unable to attend, a GoFundMe was set up by friends of the family at http://www.gofundme.com/support-for-the-mclaren-family. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated and will go directly to the family for living and medical expenses.
In The Community: The Buzz, an award-winning ensemble in both the national competitions of The Barbershop Harmony Society and Sweet Adelines, is hosting their last ever New England performance 7pm at the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks (777 South Street). This musical party happening, filled with great performances, is largely organized by members of the Wilmington-based Merrimack Valley Acappella, a chorus of over 40 women, from communities all over the area. The concert will feature performances from several other top quartets, including Saffron. Tickets cost $25 and can be purchased online HERE.
