LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Wilmington Good Guy, Former Selectman Scott Garrant Endorses Judy O’Connell For State Rep

Dear Editor,

As the September 4th Primaries approach, I would like to share the reasons why I am supporting Judy O’Connell for election as our next State Representative.

As I consider who to vote for in an election, I look for candidates who have integrity, passion and compassion. Judy possesses each of these and she lives her personal, public and professional “lives” proving this. As a former member of both the Wilmington School Committee and Wilmington Board of Selectmen, Judy has shared not only her commitment to the community and her fellow residents, but also her passion for public service and the related willingness to give back. Her dedication to the community and residents has extended beyond serving as an elected official as evidenced by her service to the Lions Club and in chairing the “Friends of Nine Cross Street” that resulted in the development of the Yentile’s Farm Recreational Park.

Throughout her service on both the Board of Selectmen and School Committee, Judy conducted herself with dignity and sincerity and brought knowledge and ability to the table. Of equal importance, is Judy’s innate compassion. Judy truly cares about the community and its residents and takes the time to listen to and understand the needs and desires expressed by residents. That information then serves to guide her decision-making. As residents, that is what we should expect for those that we place in such position.

At a time when many elected officials jump at the opportunity to support a cause or an interest group only because they believe it may garner them votes, even if they don’t support the message, Judy has the courage and the integrity to stand for what she believes is right.

Tewksbury and Wilmington need an individual who will enter the State House with the goal of serving residents, not their own interests. That individual must have not only integrity, passion and compassion, but also the abilities to work with others, to effectively communicate the needs of residents and to objectively evaluate information when making decisions. Judy has proven herself to be that person in every aspect of her life.

Respectfully,

Scott Garrant
