OBITUARY: Daniel C. Wandell, Jr., 55

WILMINGTON, MA — Daniel C. Wandell, Jr. “Danny”, age 55, of Tewksbury, formerly a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away unexpectedly at home on August 10, 2018. Born in Winchester on February 26, 1963, Dan was the beloved son of Daniel and Catherine Wandell. Danny grew up in a large family in Wilmington and graduated from Wilmington High School. He was a devoted employee as the Director of Operations in the Secretary of State office in Boston.

Danny loved all kinds of sports. He enjoyed golfing, crunching through different players stats and loved hockey, especially the Bruins. He enjoyed watching his children as they played various sports and carried that through to watching his grandson Jaxon at all his games.

Family was the most important thing to Dan. His children and grandchildren were the light of his life. He loved to spend time with them and would take the kids to amusements parks, on trips, and his legendary sleepovers with his granddaughter Paige that always involved ample amounts of candy. He looked forward to their annual trip to Storyland and Santa’s Village that they just returned from last week. These are special memories will forever live on in their hearts.

Danny was the devoted father of Victoria Smith & her husband J.T. of Westford, Curtis Wandell & his wife Hayley of Tewksbury and Allyson Wandell of Avondale, Arizona. Loving “Pa” of Paige, A.J., Jaxon, Payton, Landon, and soon to be Lily. Cherished son of the late Daniel C. Sr. and Catherine E. “Betty” (Hennessy) Wandell, dear brother of Kim McDonough-Gawron of Hollis, ME, Joan Wandell of Lowell, Susan Landry & her late husband William of Billerica, Nancy Brothers & her husband Patrick of Tewksbury, Kathy Mireault & her husband Erik of Lowell and Michael Wandell & his wife Bridget of Dracut. Danny is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Tuesday, August 14th 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, at 10:00 a.m. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, August 13th from 4:00-8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Danny’s memory may be made to Tewksbury Youth Skating Association, PO Box 694, Tewksbury, MA 01876.

  1. My deepest sympathy to the Wandell family. Dan will always be remember by me as a terrific nice guy with a great sense of humor. Whenever I was with Dan he always spoke so lovingly of his kids. This is a great loss for all who knew Dan. Let our loss be Heaven’s gain. Rest in peace friend with your Holy Saviour Jesus.

  2. Over the years and up to last week when speaking with Danny, I was happy that he enjoyed his career as a public servant but will always remember his spending time with his family as the light of his life. To them please accept my heartfelt condolences for a true, loyal friend.
