The Wilmington Insider For August 11, 2018

WILMINGTON, MA — Below is a round-up of what’s going on in Wilmington on Saturday, August 11, 2018:

Happening Today:

Weather: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 10am, then showers likely. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Patchy fog before 8am, then patchy fog after 9am. High near 72. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Yardwaste Center: The Town’s Yardwaste Center, located on Old Main Street, off of Main Street at the Woburn line, is open from 9am to 4pm. Residents will need to purchase a punch-card for $15 in order to enter the yardwaste center. Punch-cards will be available for purchase through the Collector’s Office at Town Hall and will allow up to 5 vehicle trips to the Yardwaste Center per card. NO GRASS CLIPPINGS OR STUMPS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Commercial vehicles will not be allowed. Make sure to bring photo identification to show you are a Wilmington resident.

In The Community: The Kiwanis Club of Wilmington is joining with other Kiwanis Clubs from around Massachusetts to collect needed school supplies for children attending Massachusetts schools. The Kiwanis Club’s School Supply Drive will take from 9am to 1pm at West Real Estate (386 Main Street). Items needed include: backpacks, pens, pencils, notebooks, folders, glue sticks, kid’s scissors, rulers, calculators, highlighters, boxes of tissues and reams of paper. For further information, contact Stu Neilson at 978-430-1652. No time to shop? Cash/check donations will be used to purchase needed supplies.

In The Community:  The Friends of Wilmington Tennis is holding the First Annual Wilmington Tennis Open at the Wilmington High School courts. There will be two categories — adult doubles (high school grads & older) and junior singles (grammar school to high school seniors). Players must be able to keep score, serve, and bring a can of new hardcourt/extra duty tennis balls. Registration costs $20. All proceeds to benefit the Friends of Wilmington Tennis. In The Community: The Friends of the Wilmington Memorial Library’s Book Store Next Door (183 Middlesex Avenue) is open from 10am to 4pm. All books are $2 or less!  Every penny of every sale benefits the Wilmington Memorial Library.

In The Community: The Wilmington Food Pantry (142 Chestnut Street) is open from 10am to noon for food donation drop-offs. Learn which food items the Pantry is most in need of HERE.
