WILMINGTON, MA — August is designated “Ice Bucket Challenge Month” until a cure for A.L.S. is found. Last year’s enormous success was terrific, but further monies are needed for continuing the research into curing this hideous disease. Towards that end, the Wilmington Rotary Club will be holding another Community-Wide Ice Bucket Challenge on Saturday, August 18th at 10:00 AM. The Challenge will be held, rain or shine, at Rotary Park and everyone is welcome to come and join with Rotarians for this Challenge.
A.L.S., commonly known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease” is a fatal degenerative neurological condition that causes progressive dysfunction in the nerves that control both voluntary and involuntary muscle movement.
Help us make this a success! Last year we had over 200 participants. It’s a great opportunity to challenge anyone. The Rotary Club is hereby challenging all dance studios, service clubs businesses and sports teams. Come and join all of the Wilmington High’s sports teams again this year. Challenge your “favorite” relative or neighbor? Everyone is welcome.
Perhaps you did the Challenge last year or perhaps this would be your first time. Please plan on joining us either as a participant, or spectator. People of all ages will be able to join in the fun. We will have plenty of buckets, ice and water. If you have a favorite bucket, please bring it. As this is a fund raising event for A.L.S. research, we ask that you bring a donation of any amount with you on August 18th.
This year, we have added a “Leadoff Package” including two tickets to the Monday, August 20th Red Sox/Cleveland Indians game, a $ 50 Gift Card to Eastern Standard, an eatery five minutes from Fenway Park and a $ 50 Gift Card to the Red Sox Souvenir Shop. Bids may be made by phone to “Scooter” Cunningham at 978-944-0155 or by Facebook at The Rotary Club of Wilmington and entering your bid under “Comments”.
If unfortunately you’re unable to join with us, donations in any amount can be sent to Wilmington Rotary Club, P. O. Box 503, Wilmington, Ma. 01887. Be assured that 100 % of all funds raised will be donated toward A.L.S. research.
