WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington High School Fall Sports Night will be on Tuesday, August 21 at 6pm in the WHS Auditorium.
This is required for all students who will be trying out for fall sports, plus one guardian for each participating student.
Important information will be discussed and students and families will break off by sport to learn about team expectations and tryout procedures. Permission forms will be distributed and should be returned to the coach on the first day of tryouts. A valid physical (within the last 13 months) should be on file in the Athletic Office if one is expired or needed. If a new physical is needed, a form must be submitted before a student can participate.
Dr. Ruth Potee has been secured as a guest speaker as part of the night. The talk is titled “Athletes, Opioids & Addiction” and will last about 45 minutes. Learn more about the talk HERE. Potee is a board certified Family Physician and Addiction Medicine physician at Valley Medical Group in Greenfield, MA. In addition to practicing full- scope family medicine, she is currently the Medical Director for the Franklin County House of Corrections, the Franklin Recovery and Treatment Center and the Pioneer Valley Regional School District as well as the Chair of the Healthcare Solutions of the Opioid Taskforce of Franklin County. Dr. Potee engages communities in discussions surrounding substance abuse through her wide ranging series of talks.
Ice Bucket Challenge Note
All students are encouraged to attend the Wilmington Rotary Club’s ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on Saturday, August 18 at 10am at Rotary Park. Last year, more than 140 students and coaches participated. It is a great event to support.
