WILMINGTON, MA — Gail (Wilson) Smith, age 74, of Billerica, passed away surrounded by her loving family on July 27, 2018.
Gail was born on February 22, 1944 in Melrose, MA; she was the cherished daughter of the late Arthur H. and Catherine E. (Davidson) Wilson. Gail was raised in Stoneham and graduated from Stoneham High School.
Gail worked as an administrative assistant for GCA and Applied Materials for many years before retiring.
Gail married Robert K. Smith in 1979; the couple lived in Wilmington for a few years before moving to Billerica in 1982, where they raised their family.
Gail’s family was most important to her; she was a wonderful woman with a “heart of gold.” Gail was a Mom to everyone; whether it was her own children, her children’s friends or foster children; she loved them all the same. Gail’s house was a place where everyone could go and know they were going to be cared for. She took great pride in her home.
In her spare time, Gail enjoyed gardening and working in her yard. She also loved to crochet and do embroidery. Gail volunteered for the Fallen Heroes organization where she shared her talents to create blankets for families of Fallen soldiers.
Gail will be remembered as a loving and nurturing woman who was kind to all. She will be missed by her family and friends.
Gail was the beloved wife of the late Robert K. Smith, devoted mother of John Butler of Billerica, Julie Sullivan & her husband Joseph of Methuen, Lee Butler & his wife Lisa of Lowell, the late Paul Butler, Cheryl Dissottle of NY, Robert Smith of Wilmington and Scott Smith & his wife Christine of Hudson, NH, loving “Nana” of Debbie Athey & her husband Matt, Cheyenne, Savannah, John and Wyatt Butler, Kaitlyn Butler, Kylie Sullivan, Kevin and Madison Butler, great-grandmother of Haley, Noah, Regan, Lucas, Isaiah, Keeley and Julianna, cherished daughter of the late Arthur H. and Catherine E. (Davidson) Wilson, dear sister of Elaine (Matcallum) Monte of Winthrop, the late Madelyn and Nancy Wilson, aunt of David and Daniel Monte. Gail is also survived by her special friends Don & Wendy Jarek and Donna Wayman as well as many cousins and friends.
Family and friends will gather for Visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA on Wednesday, August 1st from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon. Immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00 noon. Interment to follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
