Kevin Welch To Remain Interim Middle School Principal For Upcoming School Year

WILMINGTON, MA — On Friday, new Superintendent Dr. Glenn Brand announced that Kevin Welch has agreed to remain as Interim Principal of the Wilmington Middle School for the 2018-2019 school year.

“I am grateful to Mr. Welch for his continual willingness to step forward during this time of transition and in his ongoing commitment in helping support the middle school community during this time,” said Brand in a letter that was emailed to parents.

Welch was first appointed Interim Principal by the late Superintendent Joanne Benton during the 2016-2017 school year, after then Principal Amy Gerade unexpectedly resigned due to health issues. Then Interim Superintendent Paul Ruggiero had Welch remain in the role during the 2017-2018 school year to maintain continuity in school leadership.

“Upon my appointment last spring, I worked closely with Interim Superintendent Ruggiero as we discussed possible options regarding securing a permanent leader for the school,” explained Brand. “Ultimately, we both felt that if Mr. Welch was amendable to continuing for one more year in the role, this would afford myself with the advantage of time necessary to better understand the specific needs of the school community as well as the collective beliefs around the qualities and characteristics that best depict the type of permanent leader the middle school needs at this time.”

“During the next few months, one of my priorities will be to work collaboratively with the entire middle school community (including students, parents/guardians and staff) to develop a candidate profile of the next Wilmington Middle School principal that the entire educational community feels best aligns with the needs of the school community to help the school move forward,” said Brand.

Brand intends on starting the search for a permanent Middle School Principal in December.
