WILMINGTON, MA — Louis H. Perry Sr., age 85, a longtime resident of Wilmington passed away on June 17, 2018 after spending the day in the warm sunshine surrounded by loved ones. He was the beloved husband of the late Janet E. (Richards) Perry. Born in East Boston he was the son of the late Frank and Helen (Butare) Perry formerly of Stoneham.
Lou made friends wherever he traveled in life from the “Pearl Street Gang” in Medford, neighbors from Fairmeadow Road, loved ones in Nova Scotia, his Knights of Columbus crew and colleagues from every job he ever worked. Once Lou knew you, you became part of his crowd whether it was playing cards, bowling, traveling or just sharing a drink. Lou and Janet traveled often with the crowd. There were family trips to LaHave, Nova Scotia, party trips to islands and cruises, trips to Italy and Portugal to see where his family came from, Ireland and Scotland, Germany and so many more. Janet was the planner and Lou made sure everyone had a good time.
Lou was a machinist and mold maker by trade. He was instrumental in assisting with the build of the original Polaroid SX 70. He was given the honor of taking it out for pre-release beta testing. He chose to bring it to Disney. Half of the fun of the trip for him was seeing the reaction of the crowd as they watched him take those instant pictures. He had the pleasure of working for his friend Charlie Shea at Friday Engineering for many years. He finished up his career working at Vicor. Lou’s machinist and mold maker skills came in handy at home as well. He didn’t hire people to fix things around his house, he did it himself and taught his son the tricks of the trade. His creativity with wood was well known. Each grandson has a grandfather clock to cherish, hand made by their grandfather. His final projects included bird houses, a rocking horse and a playground for his great grandchildren. Lou lived a life well loved and well lived. He will be missed and his memory will be cherished.
Lou is survived by his children Louis “Chip” Perry Jr. and his wife Marcy of Acton, and Liane Perry Deronde and her husband James of Wilmington. He was the loving grandfather of Jason Perry and his wife Lindsay, Adam Perry and his wife Jessica, Scott Deronde and his wife Alyssa. He also had the joy of being a great grandfather to Scotty Deronde Jr. and Akiva and Azalea Perry as well as uncle and great uncle to a multitude of nephews and nieces. He is survived by his Auntie Anna Iamelli, his sister Ann Nolan and her husband William of Wilmington, his brother Bobby Perry of Stoneham and sister in law Nadine Perry. He was the brother of the late John, Frank “Butch” and Richard “Dick” Perry.
Funeral services will be held from the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 374 Main St., WILMINGTON, Thursday, June 21st, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Dorothy Church, Main St., Wilmington, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, from 4 to 8 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
