FULLERTON, CA — RoseMarie, age 81, a longtime resident of Fullerton, was born in Wilmington, MA, as Ruth Rose Marie Ballantine. She was the daughter of William and Dorothy Rogers and sister to Dorothy, Judith and Beverly Rogers, Daniel Ballantine, James (Barry) Laurin, Wilfred (Babe) Laurin and John Falasca. Rose Marie attended Wilmington High School where she met and eventually married Weston (Wes) Draper. Together, they had five children, Susanne, Darlene, Earl, Jeffrey and Alison.
Rose Marie was excited to become Nana to each of her seven grandchildren: Krista, Owen, Christopher (Chris), Derek, Austin and Jason, and later a great-grandma to Ethan. Rose loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was always her first priority.
Rose Marie was a nurturing mother. She ruled the house with love, strong convictions and a wooden spoon and was very proud of her family.
Rose Marie’s life was bustling, with five kids keeping her far from being bored. As her children grew, she was involved in many things related to their lives and hers. She taught religious education, and was an active member of PTA, Girl Scouts and Parents Without Partners. No matter what, though, Rose Marie would always find time to “slow life down” and to sit and chat with family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, the mail-carrier, and pretty much anyone else that crossed paths with her.
Rose Marie had such a love for life, and always made those around her feel extremely welcome. In fact, many have said that she is far and away the nicest and most giving person they have ever known. There are many folks (you know who you are), who are neither biologically or legally related to her and yet call her “My Other Mother” or “Nana Rose”. To those she cared about, you knew she had your back, but would take you to task if she thought you were out of line.
Surrounded by her family, Rose passed away, very peacefully, at 5:52 in the morning on March 18th, 2018. On that quiet and peaceful morning, Rose took her last breath of life on this earth, and is now in the palm of your hand Lord.
Rose Marie’s wish was to be cremated and her ashes interred with her family in MA. A funeral mass for Rose Marie has been celebrated, and an interment ceremony will be held on Monday, June 18 at 10am, Wildwood Cemetery, 223 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, MA.
