WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington High School Varsity Softball team (13-7) defeated Essex Tech by a score of 10-0 on Saturday, June 2.
The Wildcats’ bats continued to pound out the hits, scoring early and often. Dana Goulet led off with a single and Ryan Bailey had a perfect sacrifice setting the stage for the 3-5 batters – Antonia Kieran, Ally Moran, and Adele Burton. The Wildcats were able to plate 2 in the first inning.
Wilmington blew the game open in the fourth inning when they went through the batting order and scored five times. Kayla Bourrell led off the inning when she was hit by a pitch. Aliyah Tang used her speed and had a great infield hit. After Emily Wright struck out, there were back to back-to-back hits from Goulet, Ryan Bailey (double), and Antonia Kieran. An error finished off the scoring.
Leading the way with 2 hits were Dana Goulet (1 RBI), Antonia Kieran (2 RBI), and Aliyah Kieran. Ryan Bailey and Adele Burton also had two RBI in the contest.
“This is the best we have been hitting all year,” said coach Audrey Cabral. “It is nice to see the bats come alive.”
Ally Moran continues to impress on the mound with 12 strikeouts while allowing only 3 hits. Moran the Wildcats haven’t allowed a run in 14 straignt innings.
The Wildcats’ defense was again impressive. The Wildcats pulled off two double plays to put ends to scoring threats that the Hawks had in the second and third innings.
“If we continue to play flawless defense, this team can compete with any team,” says coach Audrey Cabral.
The team will find out its first-round opponent in the state tournament on Tuesday.
