The Wilmington Insider For June 2, 2018

WILMINGTON, MA — Below is a round-up of what’s going on in Wilmington on Saturday, June 2, 2018:

Happening Today:

Weather: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1pm, then a slight chance of showers between 1pm and 2pm. Areas of fog before 9am. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 79. North wind 6 to 8 mph becoming northeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

In The Community: The Town of Wilmington will hold its annual Household Hazardous Waste Day from 9am to 2pm in the parking lot of the West Intermediate School (22 Carter Lane). The event is FREE for Wilmington residents. (There is a fee for disposal of tires.)  Proof of residency is required. View the event flyer for more information. Contact the Wilmington Department of Public Works at 978-658-4481 with any questions.

In The Community: The Wilmington Recreation Department is sponsoring the 36th Annual Fishing Derby from 9am to noon at Town Beach. Participants must register in the Bath House. Prizes will be awarded for the Heaviest Bass and Heaviest Non-Bass in both age groups. The cost to participate in the Derby is $5 for those ages 18 and over, and $2 for anyone age 17 and under. Worms will be available for purchase. There will be shore fishing only – no boats. No fishing license is required for this event only. Rain date is Sunday, June 3.

In The Community: Artists from Wilmington and surrounding towns will compete once again for ribbons and cash prizes in the Wilmington Council for the Arts’ 38th Annual Art Exhibition. The event takes place at the Wilmington Arts Center (219 Middlesex Avenue). The exhibition begins on Friday, June 1, 2018, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, with a reception, refreshments and live music. The exhibition continues on Saturday, June 2, 2018, from noon to 4pm. The reception and exhibition are open to the public, and free of charge. Last year’s artwork can be viewed HERE.

In The Community: State Representative candidate Erin Buckley (R-Tewksbury) is holding a Meet & Greet from 9am to noon at Donna’s Donuts (2106 Main Street, Tewksbury. Come have some donuts and talk about the future of Tewksbury and Wilmington!

In The Community: Boy Scout Troop 126 of Wilmington is holding a Car Wash from 10am to 2pm in the Fourth of July Building Parking Lot (142 Middlesex Avenue). A $5 donation is suggested for each car wash.

In The Community: The Friends of the Wilmington Memorial Library’s Book Store Next Door (183 Middlesex Avenue) is open from 10am to 4pm. All books are $2 or less!  Every penny of every sale benefits the Wilmington Memorial Library.

In The Community: The Wilmington Food Pantry (142 Chestnut Street) is open from 10am to noon for food donation drop-offs. Learn which food items the Pantry is most in need of HERE.

At The Library: The Wilmington Memorial Library (175 Middlesex Avenue) is hosting several programs — Fiction Critique Group (9:15am), Drop-In Baby Times (9:30am) and Dads & Donuts (10:30am). Learn more and register HERE.
