WILMINGTON, MA — Below is a recent Wilmington Little League game summary:
AAA: Pirates Beat Astros, 16-7, on May 24 at Boutwell Field
The Astros had another game filled with baserunners. Joe Gronemeyer and Evan Cummings doubled, adding to singles by Joe Fennelly, Jake Cronin, Joe Cavanaugh, Tim Watson, Ronnan Scafiddi, and Cummings (again), leading the way for the offense. Batters showed a keen eye as well as Kevin Pruslin (twice), Luke Kitanov, Cavanaugh, and Gronemeyer drew walks. Pruslin added his first stolen base. Kyle McDonald and Ethan Afthim made good plays on grounders at second base while Will Poyant, Gronemeyer, Fennelly, Cavanaugh, Watson, and Pruslin were among others making plays in the field. Poyant struck out six on the mound while Fennelly (1) and Kitanov (2) added to the strikeout total. All of this wasn’t enough however, as the Pirates were led by Gavin Poirier who pitched 4 innings, striking out 10, while also going 3 for 4 with a home run. The Pirates had great catching by Noah Matton and Jake Driscoll along with offense from Joey Fallis, Ronnie Jordan, Chris Smith, and Riley Morrell. Great base running from everyone lead to a complete team effort in the win. Coaches have spoken to the team about cheering on their teammates and David Norton was a great motivator for the team during this game. He never stopped rooting on his teammates and the Pirates’ coaches don’t believe it’s a coincidence that when kids are being supported by their teammates, they perform better.
