WOBURN, MA — P. John Darby, 87, formerly of Woburn, passed away at his home in Melbourne, Florida on March 18, 2018. He was the loving husband of Nancy (Higgins) Darby.
John was born in in Newbury, Berkshire, England on November 20, 1930. After serving in the British army, he moved from England to Nova Scotia, Canada. He served in the Canadian army and then worked for the Canadian postal service until he retired to care for his first wife, Frances, in her final illness. He was a member and past Patron of the Honorable Joseph Howe chapter of Eastern Star.
In 1989 he met his beloved Nancy (Higgins) at an Eastern Star convention. They married in 1991 and settled in Woburn, Massachusetts. They were long-time active members of the North Congregational Church. John was a member of the Aleppo Shrine in Wilmington, and the Mt. Horeb Masonic Lodge in Woburn. He was a member and past Worthy Patron of the Aletheon Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star in Woburn.
In 2015, after John retired as a security guard, he and Nancy moved from Woburn to Melbourne, Florida; where John became a member of the Azan Shrine Temple, and John and Nancy became members of Harbor City Eastern Star.
In addition to his wife Nancy, John is survived by his sister Barbara and brother David. He was predeceased by his brother Earl. John was buried at the Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge, FL on March 22, 2018.
A memorial service to celebrate John’s life was held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the North Congregational Church, 896 Main St., in Woburn (at the corner of Main & School in North Woburn).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations were made to the North Congregational Church, 896 Main St., Woburn, MA 01801; or the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa FL 33607.
