TEWKSBURY, MA — Below is a statement from State Rep. Candidate Pina Prinzivalli (R-Tewksbury):
On Tuesday, members of the State Senate rejected a budget amendment that would have given Massachusetts taxpayers a sales tax holiday in August. The vote went 14 Yeas to 24 Nays. We’re now on the verge of three straight years without a tax free weekend. And keep in mind, in January of 2017, our legislature voted to give themselves pay raises, to the tune of $18,000,000 per year. They put themselves ahead of you, the taxpayer. That’s wrong.
When I launched my campaign for the 19th Middlesex in October, I immediately went to work for the taxpayers by collecting signatures for a ballot question to reduce the sales tax to 5% and establish an annual tax free weekend. Recently, the House turned down an opportunity to adopt the language through legislation. Thus we need to collect another 11,000 signatures for official placement on the November ballot. And of course, I’m participating in the effort because I’m committed to making sure you can keep more of your hard earned money. I’m the only candidate who is running to put the taxpayers first. You can count on me to be your friend on Beacon Hill.
