LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Governor Baker Is WRONG Not To Appoint Interim State Representative Following Miceli’s Passing

Dear Editor,

With the unfortunate passing of our State Representative, Jim Miceli, most of the voters in both Tewksbury and Wilmington have no representation in the Massachusetts Legislature.

The Governor has apparently decided not to name an interim representative, but rather wait for the fall election to fill this seat.

This is particularly unfortunate as clearly Representative Miceli was especially good at citizens’ concerns.  Now we are left with 6 months of no one to whom to call with any problems or difficulties that we may have.

As someone said so long ago “Taxation Without Representation is Tyranny.” Perhaps Governor Baker, not wishing to appear tyrannical, will grant we the unrepresented, a 6-month credit on our 2018 State Income Tax. Just wondering!

  1. Yes, I agree that a temporary State Rep should have been appointed. Jim did such a great and caring job for all of the residents in Tewksbury and Wilmington. It goes without saying that we miss him not only as our Rep but for the person he was. His shoes will be extremely hard to fill. Anyone who knew Jim’s stand and voting choices for us “On the Hill” knows that he always voted and took each of us in consideration. He did this tirelessly and when one of us suffered a loss there he was at the wake and funeral to try to give his hope and strength for the deceased and their family, relatives and friends. Let’s continue to love and respect Jim and his family.
