OBITUARY: Thomas H. McMahon, 84

WILMINGTON, MA — Thomas H. McMahon, age 84, a life-long resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at home on May 13, 2018.

Tom was born on June 2, 1933 in Cambridge, MA; he was the cherished only child to Joseph and Anna McMahon. Tom was raised and educated in Wilmington, went to Wilmington High School where he was an avid baseball player. Tom went on to further his education at Bentley College in Waltham where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in accounting all while attended New England Institute of Embalming and Funeral Directing in Boston at night.

Tom worked hard for his family; he along with his dad, Joe, ran the Joseph B. McMahon and Son Funeral Home in Wilmington for many years. In 1977, Tom, retired from Funeral Directing and went on to work as a Cost Account Manager for the Bostik Company in Middleton.

Tom married “the love of his life” Mary Letellier on September 8, 1956; the couple raised a beautiful family and shared many wonderful times together. Tom was a very devoted husband and father; he enjoyed following his children’s and grandchildren’s school and sporting events. Years ago,Tom, was involved in Wilmington Youth Hockey with his sons; he worked in several capacities including coaching for several teams. Tom really enjoyed teaching not only his children but other kids in the community. Tom really enjoyed the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren who he was so proud of.

Tom will be remembered as a simple guy who was kind and soft spoken; he truly loved his family and friends with all his heart and he will be greatly missed by all.

Tom was the beloved husband of Mary P. (Letellier) McMahon, devoted father of Joseph McMahon & his wife Elizabeth, Paul McMahon & his wife Sheila and Nancy McMahon all of Wilmington. Loving Grandfather of Colleen and Erin McMahon, Michael McMahon & his wife Yurie, Sarah Gurry & her husband Jon, MaryBeth McMahon, Jennifer & Thomas Maio and Great-Granddaughter Eleanor Rose Gurry. Cherished son of the late Joseph B. and Anna T. (Coyne) McMahon. Tom is also survived by a large extended family.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Thursday, May 17th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, at 10:00 a.m. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting Hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 16th from 5:00-8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Thomas’ memory may be made to St. Thomas Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, MA 01887 or to St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Parish House, 14 East 51st St., New York, NY 10022 or saintpatrickscathedral.org/give.
